AAA Advanced Audit and Assurance

Paper Overview

Advanced Audit and Assurance (AAA) is the most technically demanding of the optional Strategic Professional papers, with the lowest pass rate. It tests professional judgement and scepticism across complex audit situations, emerging assurance engagements, and ethical challenges — operating at partner level, not audit trainee level.

The accounting knowledge required for AAA is aligned to SBR — you must know your IFRS standards to challenge management's judgements. ACCA recommends sitting and passing SBR before attempting AAA. AAA has a pass rate of approximately 38–42%; the most common reason for failure is insufficient scepticism — identifying issues without challenging them.
